It's a little bit official. After being torn apart (not literally) in a tutorial by being asked loads of questions and not knowing precise answers, I've decided I need to improve my reading speed. It's already very fast, but I'd like it to be much faster so I can take upon more material in less time. To this end...
... I decided to look up how Derren Brown managed to memorise things like entire dictionaries or read entire books in 20 minutes. The steps involve simply reading very quickly, cutting out words and reading them from the corner of your eye and by training your brain to comprehend the information faster. This leads to the 'reading' of the material, but the actual 'learning' stems from the storage of said read material into the memory.
Imagine a giant room in your head. It can be decorated however you like, but it must be organised and have a lot of storage space. For example, a pin-up board covered with interesting newspaper clippings. A table for photos to be placed on. A bureau for mini versions of interesting objects in life.
So grab a book. Read a page. Time it. How long did that take? Now read it again, giving yourself no more than a second per line. Do this five times. Time it. How long did each take? After several reads, your natural reading speed should be that of the fast speed.
Worth a try, I guess. I'll let you know how it goes!
